Volga Linen
United Kingdom, with production across Europe
Theresa Tollemache went looking for her grandmother's family history in Russia in the late 1980s. She came back with something else: an obsession with an ancient linen industry that was still quietly operating, largely unknown outside the country, producing everything from heavy agricultural sacking to fine damask fit for the Kremlin. She saw an opportunity nobody else was looking at, and in 1995, Volga Linen was born.
The company is now led by Claire Fouché, CEO and Creative Director, who has built on Theresa's founding vision while expanding the collection in new directions — including designing new prints drawn from the brand's three-hundred-year-old archive of engraved wood-block patterns. Under her direction, Volga was granted a Royal Warrant by King Charles III as Suppliers of Fine Linens and Soft Furnishings, recognition of what the company has stood for since its founding. The collection spans bed linen with traditional hemstitch and diamond-stitch finishes, a drawn-thread range still produced in Russia, and fabrics woven from European Flax®-certified fibres — a plant that requires no irrigation, fewer pesticides than almost anything else in textiles, and ages the way good materials are supposed to: by getting better.
We carry Volga for their heirloom-quality. This is linen meant to be used for decades, passed down rather than replaced.
