Adil Can Güven began his journey in ceramics in 1970, apprenticing under master artisans across Kütahya, Çan, and Çanakkale — the historic centres of Turkish ceramic craft — before devoting himself to the revival of Iznik, an art form whose golden period ran from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century and produced some of the most technically sophisticated ceramics ever made. Working from his atelier in Bursa, he sits at a long wooden table with a fine brush, his lines precise and measured — the discipline of decades visible in every curve. 

Iznik pottery was produced from the last quarter of the fifteenth century until the end of the seventeenth, its decorative language a distinct Ottoman interpretation of Chinese blue-and-white porcelain — tulips, carnations, pomegranates, arabesques rendered in cobalt, turquoise and the distinctive Ottoman red unique to this tradition. The technique declined and was nearly lost entirely. Adil Can Güven is among a small number of masters who have spent their lives keeping it alive — not as reproduction, but as living practice. 

We carry his work because it represents one of the most significant surviving craft traditions in the world, made by someone who has spent over fifty years learning it properly. In a region as connected to this history as the Middle East, these pieces carry a particular resonance.
