Kate Cronk trained as a weaver, which is not the path that usually leads to a career drawing dogs peeking through net curtains and gardens mid-bloom. After graduating, she found weaving jobs scarce and took creative work at an accessories company instead — work that paid the bills but left her missing the drawing and pattern design she'd loved as a student. In 2014, she set up her own studio, Peggy & Kate, and went back to what she actually wanted to make.

Her early years in business were spent second-guessing her own instincts, trying to settle on one consistent style. A decade in, she's stopped. Her work now moves freely between loose, expressive painting and tightly detailed illustration depending on her mood, and that range has only made the work richer. She draws from her own life constantly — her parents run a plant nursery, and that early exposure to growing things shows up again and again in her cards and stationery, alongside ponds, dogs and the particular charm of an English garden.
