Pascale Nivet Bernetière founded Céleste Mogador in 2016, after building two earlier ventures with her husband Fabrice — a stationery and interiors brand in 2004, then a clothing label in 2014. Céleste Mogador is where her own hand-embroidery finally took centre stage: brooches, earrings and jewellery, every piece hand-stitched by Pascale herself in her Rennes studio, using fine silk thread, crystal glass beads and Japanese Miyuki beads.

Her visual references run somewhere between Breton tradition and an entirely different sensibility — she names The Sex Pistols, Joy Division and Vivienne Westwood as touchstones alongside the maritime and culinary folklore of her native Brittany, which she's deliberately trying to pull away from its more clichéd seagull-and-bonnet imagery. The brand name itself comes from Céleste Mogador, the stage name of a notorious nineteenth-century French cancan dancer — a deliberately theatrical reference for jewellery that treats eyes, mouths and lucky charms as recurring, talismanic motifs.

We carry Céleste Mogador because a hand-embroidered brooch is unusual to begin with, and her particular mix of folk tradition and rock-and-roll irreverence makes it even more interesting still.
