Small Belles Rives Tray - ARRIVING SOON

If the Mini Belles Rives is a personal object, the Small is a social one. Wide enough to hold a candle and a carafe. Long enough to anchor a coffee table or a bar. Deep enough to give everything on it a sense of arrangement.

Rita Konig has been working with The Lacquer Company since 2010. The Belles Rives Tray — its wave edge drawn from the form of a 19th century butler’s tray — is her most enduring collaboration. She uses the pieces in all sorts of ways:

“I use the pieces in all sorts of ways — obviously the trays are just incredibly useful everywhere. The funny thing is, the less you match the colour to the space, the better they are.”

The finish is Son Mai lacquer, made by artists in Vietnam using a technique that is centuries old. Multiple layers of natural lacquer, wet-sanded between each coat. The result is a surface with a depth and warmth that photography can suggest but not quite capture. Soft edges. Serious colour. Objects that improve with time.
