GAVIN HOUGHTON ARTWORK, LONDON
Gavin Houghton is an interior designer, ceramicist and artist — born in Hertfordshire to artist parents, trained at art college in London, and gifted with a practical, playful eye that has taken him in more interesting directions than most careers allow.
He studied menswear at what was then Kingston Polytechnic, but quickly realised it was interiors, not fashion, that genuinely excited him. On graduating, he landed a week-long stint in the fabric room at The World of Interiors — and made enough of an impression on Min Hogg, the title's legendary founding editor, that she offered him a job as editorial stylist. From there he went to David Collins, the interior design studio synonymous with glamorous restaurants and bars, before returning to The World of Interiors as promotions art director and later taking up the same role at Vogue.
The career that followed has been characteristically varied: art direction, ceramics, painting, and a body of work that draws on the warmth, colour and sensory richness of the Mediterranean world he loves. The series of original watercolours we carry at The Voyage Dubai are bold, saturated and full of life — the work of someone who has spent decades observing beautiful things.
All works in the current series have now sold. We are able to accept new orders — get in touch to find out more.
