Heidi Bishop's path to ceramics started somewhere else entirely — she began her career as a fashion model before training at what is now Morley College, one of London's longest-standing centres for adult arts education. From there, ceramics became a full-time practice, carried out from a small home studio where the work happens slowly and by hand.

Her pieces are built around a particular signature: delicate porcelain, often shaped into small dishes with jagged, uneven edges, finished with a slick of 18-karat gold lustre painted on with one of the smallest brushes imaginable. The forms are simple yet striking. Each piece is fired, glazed and gold-painted individually. Because of the nature of how they're made, each piece carries a slight variation — the mark of work made by hand.
