Capdeco
Thiers, France
Thiers has made cutlery for over six hundred years, and the Froment family has been part of that history since 1963, when Camille Froment opened a small workshop polishing and sharpening blades for other cutlers in the region. His son Philippe took that experience and, in 2002, built something of his own: Capdeco, a flatware house that would manufacture finished pieces under its own name rather than working as a supplier to others.
Every piece is still hand-assembled in Thiers, mostly featuring coloured acrylic and wood handles — olive wood, boxwood, ebony — alongside the steel blades the town is known for. Edouard Froment, the third generation, has run the company since 2014, continuing a family line that now spans over sixty years in the trade, with no break in the chain from grandfather to grandson.
We carry Capdeco because flatware is one of those categories where the difference between mass production and genuine craft is easy to overlook and immediately felt the moment you pick up a piece. The weight, the balance, the way the handle sits in the hand — these are not accidents. They are the product of a family that has spent three generations refining exactly this.
