THE EXVOTOS, SEVILLE
The Exvotos is the workshop-studio of Daniel and Luciano, two Andalusian artists working from the Macarena neighbourhood of Seville — one of the most storied corners of one of Spain's most storied cities. Using traditional materials and working entirely by hand, they model and paint each piece in their multidisciplinary studio, drawing on the deep ceramic tradition of Andalusia while reinventing it with an unmistakable style and use of colour that is entirely their own.
These are highly sought-after sculptures — expressive, vivid and full of the kind of personality that makes them impossible to walk past without stopping. Each one is unique, and may carry small irregularities that are not flaws but marks of the artist's hand. That is, of course, the point.
