ARUNDEL DECOUPAGE, UK
Decoupage is an ancient decorative craft — the art of cutting, layering and lacquering paper onto objects to create surfaces of unusual depth and beauty. Arundel Decoupage in the UK practises it at its highest level, producing pots, chests, buckets and boxes that are as functional as they are remarkable to look at.
The process, as described by Brenda, one half of the incredible team behind Arundel Eccentrics, is truly a labour of love:
"We take vintage enamel pots and buckets and give them a makeover. We paint them, usually black but sometimes red or racing green with a hint of gold, decorate with decoupage using 19th or early 20th century images, then varnish, varnish, varnish and finish with a coat or two of aging wax. Then finally the pots and buckets get buffed to a soft sheen, et voila!"
Each piece is hand-finished and entirely one of a kind. The patterns, papers and colour combinations mean no two are ever the same. At The Voyage Dubai, we carry a small selection of Arundel Decoupage pieces for those who want something genuinely unlike anything else.
