The Artieri dell'Alabastro Cooperative was founded in 1895 and represents the oldest production structure in the entire alabaster sector of Volterra.

The company currently consists of 28 members who produce their products in full compliance with traditional alabaster processing techniques.

The name Artieri comes from the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio. Having observed the unique and exciting skills of the alabaster artisans of Volterra during his visit in 1908, D'Annunzio coined the name “ARTIERI” defining the alabaster artisans as creators of superfine art.
